Feed Them Project Update

On September 27, 2012 Pastor Nahum spent his 51st birthday doing what he loves most...serving the children. He invited several of the village children to his home and fed them.

Can you even describe the impact the gift of food has on a hungry people living is shocking deficiency?  For Pastor Nahum’s orphans, school children, and the people of his village, this food is nothing less than a miracle.

There are all those school children in Pastor Nahum's village, about 200 of them.  They’d rise early for school, leave their mud huts, walk the streets, and find a seat on the wooden benches under that sheet metal roof at Gilbert Christian School...their tummies completely empty.  Mamas didn't even have the smallest piece of bread to offer their child.  The first day of school for this school year is scheduled to open October 3rd but this school year will look different.  Remember how you all gave towards our Feed Them Project then the food arrived in July and we picked it up from the storage facility in Port-au-Prince and took it to Pastor Nahum's home?  Yes!  Praise God, there is food now!  When these hungry children come to school Pastor Nahum has food to feed them.  There is food and it’s all a beautiful God-glory miracle!!  Even now before school has opened, Pastor Nahum invites the children to share in the blessing of this food and there are no words.  When the tummy of a hungry child is filled, joy becomes something you can hold in your hands and see with your eyes.  So lovely!

We believe the best way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a child is to show them His love real in their lives.  The sacrifices of those who made it possible for the hundreds of children to be fed with this food at Pastor Nahum’s school as well as distributed to needy families in his church has given Pastor Nahum multiple opportunities to combine the truth of God’s word while meeting their physical needs.  Together this has beautifully represented Jesus to these sweet children, increasing their faith and bringing them hope.
They listen closely as Pastor Nahum tells them about Jesus just before they are fed.

They bow their heads and in all their child faith they thank God for providing them this food.
When I asked Pastor Nahum what this food means to his village he said these things:
“How can I tell you what a blessing this food is?  Not only do I have food for all the school children in my village but my wife is able to give food to many of the poor families in my church as well.  Life is very hard in my area during this time.  The corn crop is not good so there is little to eat and little to sell.  When I’m on the street I see people begging all the time.  They will look at me and say “Give me 5 dollars please. I’m so hungry.”  My heart is sad to see so much need in my area but I praise God for this food we have to share with everyone.”

You didn’t look at all of their poverty and walk away.  YOU FED THEM!!  And now we give God praise and glory for the joy, hope, and love touching these children with this food gift.  Back to Life Ministries wants to give a heartfelt thanks to all of our supporters who gave and a big thanks to Bread for a Hungry World and Feeding the Nations for partnering with us to provide this desperately needed food to the poverty stricken people in Mirebalais, Haiti.  Your sacrifice and willingness to share with our Haitian sisters and brothers has forever left a mark of beauty in their dark world.  Your gift has lessened their burdens and touched them with God’s love in a tangible way.  I can’t find better words to say in this moment than the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:12, “For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God.”

Today, Pastor Nahum’s school needs are serious.  He still needs 28 people who will commit to $30 a month to support the complete operation of Gilbert Christian School for his 200 plus children in his village.  Can you think of a more beautiful way to invest what the Lord has given you than to offer these children an education that can break the chains of their poverty and give them hope?  Thirty dollars a month to most of us is a small sacrifice, you might have to give up one or two things, but it will change the faces of hundreds of suffering children in Pastor Nahum’s village and you will be making an eternal difference.  Don’t assume someone else will support these kids.  This is your opportunity and privilege to participate in something that matters...something that shines God’s love into the dark places.  Click here, scroll down to Gilbert ChristianSchool Sponsorship and sign up to be a $30 monthly sponsor.  It’s easy and secure and at the end of the year Back to Life Ministries will send you a receipt for a tax deduction for your donations.  Thank you for responding to this urgent need and God bless you.
