They Pray

His wife is getting older.  Her body is wearing down.  She cooks, cleans, and cares for 18 children everyday all day plus cooks for the children in the school and church.  But her feet are starting to hurt her.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray.

He got his first car last year when he was 50 years old.  This old Toyota 4-Runner has proved to be an unbelievable blessing.  He can take the people in his village to the hospital when they get sick and he no longer has to ride a motorcycle to the village to pick up food for his orphans.  But it’s in the shop now…transmission problems.  The auto repair guy says it’s going to cost $500 USD to repair it.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray.  

A daddy from the village came to his orphanage with his 8 month old baby on Sunday afternoon.  Said the mama just left him so now he's trying to give his baby to Pastor Nahum.  This daddy works the fields all day and can’t care for his baby boy and work.  It’s not possible.  But Pastor Nahum is fighting to provide for the orphans and children in his school.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray. 

His generator that pumps the water out of his well broke 2 weeks ago.  He paid $400 USD to repair it.  It worked for about 2 days but the pump that gets the oil to the engine wasn't functioning properly and again it's broken.  No generator.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray.

This boy lives in a poor house down the street.  Two years ago on Christmas Pastor Nahum took him to the river with some soap to let him bathe and then gave him some clean clothes.  The boy is 14 now…he showed up at Pastor Nahum’s orphanage last week.  He’s hungry.  Begging Pastor Nahum to let him live with him.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray.

His inverter also broke the same time his generator first went out.  It’s in Port-au-Prince at MSC (aka Haiti Home Depot) being repaired.  It’s fixed now but it’s going to cost him $70 USD to cover the repairs when he goes to pick it up.  What are they supposed to do?  They pray.

And this isn't all of it…there’s a whole lot more of this poverty, tragedy and pain. 

Prayer.

Praying is a big deal when you know Jesus...it's the first thing and when you live in absolute poverty it's the only thing.  

Will you pray with me for the people of Haiti?  Especially for Pastor Nahum?  He needs us to pray to Jesus on his behalf.  Ask God to help him.  Pastor Nahum’s life…it’s a hard life…so heavy...helpless children barely surviving constantly turning to him for help.  These kids look to him and he looks to God...praying and waiting.  We can pray too.    

Hear our prayers Lord.  Turn Your eyes to Pastor Nahum and the suffering children.  In Your faithful love show mercy.  Pastor Nahum is afflicted and needy but he belongs to You so rescue him.  Deliver him.  Hurry Lord.  Show  Your great compassion for the needy and lift these burdens.  Provide.  Thank You, Father for keeping Your heart near the poor and sustaining them.  Our hope is in You.  We wait for You.  We love You.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
