They need this school

If school even exists for children in absolute poverty it looks way different than our 1st world schools.  There’s an awful lot of sacrifice that pours out of the hearts and hands of Pastor Nahum and his wife to make Gilbert Christian School an option for the broken children in their village but they know the alternative to their sacrifice is to turn a blind eye to the suffering children in their village…the outcome would be disastrous.  Without their sacrifice many of the kids attending his school would be left as street kids and the future of Haitian street kids is mostly repulsive and tragic. 

I remember when I first saw that 3^rd world school tucked away high in the mountains of Haiti.  Tiny and vulnerable they filed in.  There were so many.  They squished in tight next to their friends on rundown wooden benches, bowed their heads and clasped their small hands in prayer.  A prayer spoken in Haitian Creole pierced through the heat under that sheet metal roof then in unison they all said Amen.  Torn pages in notebooks and worn text books were shared between brothers and sisters.  Some had nothing. 

They were so eager, so hungry for knowledge.  Born into blinding poverty these kids came out of the womb taught to value the gift of an education.  School offers them their only fighting chance to rise out of their misery and make something better for themselves and their families…yes, school even brings them hope that a day is coming when poverty will no longer be their master.    

Pastor Nahum and his wife will never stop sacrificing for these kids but they need our help.  They urgently need consistent monthly support to help them meet all the monthly needs involved with keeping Gilbert Christian School operational (Click here or on the Gilbert Christian School Sponsorship tab at the top of this blog to read how you can support Pastor Nahum’s school monthly.)  But in addition to these monthly expenses they need some immediate support to help them build desks and chairs for his teachers as well as chalk boards.  Back to Life Ministries is inviting you to join with us to raise $650 to send to Pastor Nahum so Gilbert Christian School will have all of the desks, chairs, and chalk boards needed for their opening day of school coming up next month on October 3, 2012.  There is little time.  These children need this school.  They need this education.  They are waiting and believing that help is on the way.  Let's not forget this very real and needy school of children...Jesus, give us Your eyes to see how treasured and valuable these kids are to You and make them a priority in our own hearts.
